Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed!
Alleluia! Celebrate God in this sacred space! Celebrate God in all places under heaven!
Give praise for God’s mighty deeds! Give praise for God’s resurrecting power!
Praise God with a fanfare of trumpets.
Praise God with the harp and the cello!
Praise God with tambourines and dancing!
Praise God with flutes and guitars!
Praise God with cymbals and drums!
Let everything with life and breath praise God!

Opening Prayer
God of the Resurrection, you and invite us to sing and dance in the new life you give us. In Jesus Christ, whose wounds are not erased but glorified in resurrection, touch our wounds that they may be transformed into channels of healing for others.  Holy Spirit, breathe into us the power to forgive so that all may have new life.  In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

*Hymn    “Come Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain”                            TPH # 115

Prayer for Illumination
Living God, as the risen Christ came into the locked room to the first disciples, may your Word enter into us, by the power of your Holy Spirit, so that we who have not seen may yet believe. Amen.

Reading from the Gospel of John 20: 19—31 NRSV

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."   After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent me, so I send you."  When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.  If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.  So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe."
A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."  Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe."  Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"  Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.  But these are written so that you may come to believe1 that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Hymn: (please remain seated) “Spirit of God , Descend Upon My Heart”  TPH # 326

Reading from the Book of the Acts of the Apostles 5: 27—32 NRSV

When they had brought [the Apostles], they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,1 yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man's blood on us."  But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than any human authority. The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.  God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.  And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.

"Sermon     “When the Spirit Comes”          Rev. Russell Lehman

Sermon by The Rev. Russell Lehman

*Affirmation of Faith   from A Brief Statement of Faith (pcusa, 1990),
In life and in death we belong to God.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God.
Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:
preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives,
teaching by word and deed and blessing the children,
healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted,
eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners,
and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.
Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition,
Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain
and giving his life for the sins of the world.
God raised this Jesus from the dead,
vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil,
delivering us from death to life eternal.

Pastoral Prayer  and a time of silent prayer…

Lord’s Prayer (This is the Ecumenical Version; feel free to use the words of your choice)
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen

Special Music Wonderful, Merciful Savior-Selah
Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh, You rescue the souls of men
Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost our way
Oh, we've hopelessly lost the way
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for
Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we're falling before Your throne
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Postlude O Praise Him-Crowder sung by Keisha Prime
Turn your ear
To Heaven and hear
The noise inside
The sound of angels awe
The sound of angels songs
And all this for a King
We could join and sing
'All to Christ our King!'

How constant
How divine
This song of ours will rise
Oh, how constant
How divine
This song of ours will rise
Will rise…

CHORUS:
Ohh praise Him!
Ohh praise Him!
He is Holy!
He is Holy!

Turn your gaze
To Heaven and raise
A joyous noise
Oh the sound of salvation come
The sound of rescued ones
And all this for a king
Angels join to sing
'All for Christ our King!'

CHORUS {x2}

How infinite and sweet
This love so rescuing
Oh how infinitely sweet
This great love that has redeemed
As one, we sing…

Hallelujah,
Hallelujah
He is Holy,
He is Holy (x2)
