Welcome Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Questions for Reflection:  What does ‘abundant life” mean to you?

Prelude: "ONE THING REMAINS"-STANFILL sung by Keisha Prime

Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant through the trial and the change
One thing remains,
Yes, one thing remains.

Chorus 3x:]
Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Your love, your love

Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant through the trial and the change
One thing remains,
Yes, one thing remains.

Chorus 3x:]
Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Your love, your love

Because on and on, and on, and on it goes
For overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And I never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains
So, this one thing remains.

[Chorus 3x:]
Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Chorus 3x:]
Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Gathering                                    Liturgist: Jonathan Bailey
Sisters and brothers, we have been raised with Christ to new life, freed from every fear, and granted every grace. With songs of praise, let us worship God

*Hymn  “In Christ There is No East or West”                             GTG #317

Call to Confession
Already assured that forgiveness is ours in Jesus Christ, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, that we might receive mercy and amend our lives.

Prayer of Confession
Holy God, you lavish us with good gifts, yet we persist in seeking after that which robs us of abundant life. We hold fast to our anxieties and give in to our greed; we desire the very things that harm us. Forgive us, purify us, and sustain us by the strength of your Holy Spirit, we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Declaration of Forgiveness
If God is for us, who is against us? In Jesus Christ you have been set free. Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace.
Thanks be to God!

Prayer for Understanding
God of Wisdom, you promise to give your Spirit to those who ask. Luke 11:13 Overwhelm us with your Word, that we may know you more fully, love you more passionately, and follow you more closely; in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Reading from the Hebrew Scriptures:   Isaiah 1:1-6, 10b, 15-20  Contemporary English Version
I am Isaiah, the son of Amoz.  And this is the message that I was given about Judah and Jerusalem when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were the kings of Judah:
The  Lord  has said, “Listen, heaven and earth! The children I raised have turned against me. Oxen and donkeys know who owns and feeds them, but my people won't ever learn.” Israel, you are a sinful nation loaded down with guilt. You are wicked and corrupt and have turned from the Lord, the holy God of Israel. Why be punished more? Why not give  up your sin? Your head is badly bruised, and you are weak all over. From your head    to your toes there isn't a healthy spot. Bruises, cuts, and open sores go without care or oil to ease the pain.
10bSo listen to the Lord God: 15 “No matter how much you pray, I won't listen.  You are too violent. 16 Wash yourselves clean! I hate your filthy deeds. Stop doing wrong17 and learn to   live right. See that justice is done. Defend widows and orphans and help the oppressed.” 18 I, the Lord, invite you to come and talk it over. Your sins are scarlet red, but they will be whiter than snow or wool. 19 If you willingly obey me, the best crops in the land will be yours. 20 But if you turn against me, your enemies will kill you. I, the Lord, have spoken.

Hymn: (please remain seated)    “When the Poor Ones”      GTG #762

Reading from the Gospels Luke 12:13-21  Contemporary English Version
13 A man in a crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to give me my share of what our father left us when he died.” 14 Jesus answered, “Who gave me the right to settle arguments between you and your brother?” 15 Then he said to the crowd, “Don't be greedy! Owning a lot of things won't make your life safe.” 16 So Jesus told them this story:
A rich man's farm produced a big crop, 17 and he said to himself, “What can I do? I don't have a place large enough to store everything.” 18 Later, he said, “Now I know what I'll do. I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, where I can store all my grain and other goods. 19  Then I'll say to myself, ‘You have stored up enough good things to last for years to come. Live it up! Eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.’ ” 20 But God said to him, “You fool! Tonight you will die. Then who will get what you have stored up?” 21 “This is what happens to people who store up everything for themselves, but are poor in the sight of God.”

Sermon                   “Abundant Life”                Rev. Lois Robinson Lehman

Sermon by The Rev. Loins Robinson Lehman

Affirmation of Faith     from A Brief Statement of Faith pcusa
We trust in God the Holy Spirit everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God    and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in  death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Special Music "UNWAVERING"-MAHER sung by Keisha Prime

Blessed are the poor
The kingdom is theirs
Alive in the promise
To be dead to the world
Blessed are the meek
In honor of your Father
The Word at your right hand
The Spirit of truth

Unwavering is Your voice
Unwavering is Your hand
Unwavering is the heart that bled for the sins of men
Unwavering is Your will
Unwavering is Your plan
The fount of salvation on which we will stand

Blessed are the righteous
On bended knee
Found in this freedom
Committed to You
Blessed are those who see
The heights of glory
Found in the valley
And suffering for You

Unwavering is Your voice
Unwavering is Your hand
Unwavering is the heart that bled for the sins of men
Unwavering is Your will
Unwavering is Your plan
The fount of salvation on which we will stand

Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet

Unwavering is Your voice
Unwavering is Your hand
Unwavering is the heart that bled for the sins of men
Unwavering is Your will
Unwavering is Your plan
The fount of salvation on which we will stand

The fount of salvation on which we will stand

Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet
Send us out to be Your hands and feet

Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
All we have and all we are comes from you, O God, our Father, our Mother, our Creator, our Sovereign. If we were to give thanks until the end of time, we could not repay your benevolence and grace. Take these meager offerings, we pray, and increase our generosity, that everything we say and do might show forth your irrepressible love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Postlude    "Your Love Is Amazing"-Brown     Keisha Prime
Your love is amazing
Steady and unchanging
Your love is a mountain
Firm beneath my feet

Your love is a mystery
How You gently lift me
When I am surrounded
Your love carries me

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing

Your love is surprising
I can feel it rising
All the joy that's growing
Deep inside of me
And every time I see you
All your goodness shines through
And I can feel this God song rising up in me

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Your love makes me sing

Your love is surprising
I can feel it rising
All the joy that's growing
Deep inside of me
And every time I see you
All your goodness shines through
And I can feel this God song rising up in me

Your love is surprising
I can feel it rising
All the joy that's growing
Deep inside of me
And every time I see you
All your goodness shines through
And I can feel this God song rising up in me

[1]The Footnote to this hymn says: This African American spiritual has more depth that may at first appear:  for people who are bound in slavery to sing about dedicating themselves to God’s use shows a profound awareness of God-given self-worth despite circumstances that would deny their human or spiritual value
